Security forces in Pakistan have killed 13 militants in two separate intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The operations were carried out in the Bara area of Khyber District and in Bannu following reports of militant presence. In the Bara operation, security forces engaged the militants in an intense exchange of fire, resulting in the killing of 10 individuals described by the military as “khwarij.”

In a separate operation in Bannu District, three more militants were neutralised. The ISPR said sanitisation efforts are ongoing in both areas to eliminate any remaining threats and ensure the region is secure.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to continuing counter terrorism efforts under its broader strategy, aimed at eliminating militancy and ensuring national security. Officials stated that operations will persist until all threats are neutralised.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in militant attacks since 2021, particularly in border regions adjoining Afghanistan. Authorities attribute much of the violence to cross-border militant activity following the return of the Afghan Taliban to power.

In response to rising insecurity, Pakistan has conducted multiple large-scale operations targeting militant networks. Officials say hundreds of militants have been killed and infrastructure such as check posts dismantled during these campaigns.Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have also escalated in recent years, including border clashes and diplomatic strains over the handling of militant groups.Security officials maintain that ongoing operations are essential to stabilise affected regions and prevent further attacks, as efforts continue to counter what they describe as externally supported militancy.
